Honor books:
Dark Emperor and Other Poems of the Night
One Crazy Summer (which won the Coretta Scott King award)
Turtle in Paradise
Heart of a SamauriAnd the winner is none other than local (Wichitan!) author Clare Vanderpool! I'm VERY excited about this. Hubby told me a month ago when I read the book that I should interview her. I should have; I'm going to have a hard time getting an interview with her now!
Moon over ManifestI have only heard of one of the Caldecott awards, and I haven't read any of them. Here's hoping my library gets them soon.
Dave the Potter (which won the Coretta Scott King Award)
Interuupting ChickenWinner:
A Sick Day for Amos McGeeI did poorly with the Printz, as well. Heard of one, haven't read any:
Honor books:
Stolen
Please Ignore Vera Dietz
Revolver
NothingWinner:
ShipbreakerThere's a lot that won various other awards (how about a shout out to Sir Terry Pratchett who won the Margaret A. Edwards award for lifetime achievement?!?) that I'd like to read. Then again, there's a lot that I'd like to read, period. The American Library Association web site has the full list of awards, if you're interested.
Congrats to all the winners!!
4 observations:
Alas, I didn't do very well this year. I read DARK EMPEROR and ONE CRAZY SUMMER, and I think TURTLE IN PARADISE might still be in the TBR pile on my desk. But MOON OVER MANIFEST slipped right by me, as did AMOS MCGEE!
I have some catching up to do!
I don't read a lot of MG, so I'm not surprised that the only one I've read of the Newberys was One Crazy Summer. I hadn't even heard of the winner, though - I don't think it made it on very many mock-Newbery shortlists!
I am so, SO excited about Ship Breaker winning the Printz though. I think this is the first time my Printz pick has actually matched the final winner. Haven't read Nothing or Vera Dietz yet, but I wasn't impressed with the other two titles.
I adored One Crazy Summer...it was the only one of the group that I had read...have already put Moon on hold at the library.
Thanks for sharing your comments about the awards. Looking forward to picking up a few of these.
